About BNL Art Department
The BNL Art Department is a group of four art teachers in a public high school in southern Indiana. Our school has been around since 1974 and the art department and classes offered has grown and evolved from then until now. Leisa Deckard, Errin Layer, Kayla Maldonado, and Sam Haddan teach a wide range of both 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional art classes. The art teachers here at BNL love art and love to help students develop an understanding, appreciation and passion for art!
Why do we have such a large and vast art department? Because art makes life more interesting! Art is a creative outlet that benefits not only the people that create it but those who view it. Art helps with the cognitive learning process as well as critical thinking and problem solving skills. It teaches multiculturalism and history. It teaches students to work collaboratively. Art teaches students to communicate and express themselves. It teaches exploration and imagination. It develops self-confidence and persistence. It teaches students how to appreciate the many forms, techniques and styles of art. There are often no right or wrong answers in art and this helps students innovate. Art teaches students how to learn from the world around them and see beauty in uncommon places.
